The Toilet on The River, 1996 - 2016

​

The installation, a temporary outhouse nailed together from simple wooden boards, ‘plays’ with two ‘meditative’ states: sitting in the toilet and dreaming in the idyll of nature. In both cases, the states of experience are virtually identical: a particular internal concentration; isolation from the social world surrounding and frustrating each of us; a marvellous feeling of solitude, tranquillity and peace which is contrary to one's usual state of perpetual anxiety. The surrounding environment is framed perfectly by the installation, offering viewers a sense of eternity.

The Toilet on The River, 1996 - 2016

​

L’installation est composée d’une « cabine » extérieure temporaire, constituée de planches de construction en bois clouées et « joue » avec deux états « méditatifs » : être assis aux toilettes, et rêver dans le calme et la beauté de la nature. Dans les deux cas, les états éprouvés sont pratiquement identiques : une concentration interne particulière ; un isolement du monde social environnant, source de frustration pour chacun de nous ; un sentiment merveilleux de solitude, tranquillité et paix, contraire à l’état habituel d'inquiétude perpétuelle. L'installation s’inscrit parfaitement dans l’environnement, donnant aux spectateurs une impression d’éternité.
